Wood Duck

This cheeky little guy I discovered by canoe out near the marsh. There was an area near the shore where he would
swim, entranced by a female mallard and would willingly come to receive corn. Many have said I must have a really long lens to get this shot but in truth I had to keep backing up in order to
get him in my lens as he came so close and was not shy at all, very unusual for a wood duck. The male Wood Duck is the
most beautiful of North American ducks. His eyes are encircled in red, his crested head a dark iridescent green and purple with a white strip across his head and neck. White speckles adorn his burgundy chest. The latin name for this duck is interpreted as 'Water bird in Bridal Dress'.
