Common Loon

This Loon had been just hatching her last of two eggs. The hot weather was brutal and I had the honour of a peek to her tenacity and staying power, as every 30 minutes she would just take a cool dip then move right back on her nest again. When the first egg hatched the male came and took the chick further in the lake to safety. As I watched this the
mother hid the egg remnants from predators as she was protective of the egg not yet hatched. When the second egg hatched, the sounds of the other loons on the lake were something I will not soon forget, a beautiful joyous song that seemed to go on for a good five minutes, with many joining in across the lake to celebrate the occasion of new birth.
